Mark Hennell - County Adviser (Mountain Activities) I was introduced to mountaineering through the (now) South Bristol DC Bob Hussey on one of the first County trips to Rydal. 20 odd years later sees me heading the team, holding the ML (Summer) award and eager to assist other leaders to acquire the skills to safely lead their sections out on the hills.
Phil Appleton - (Instructor & Assessor) I have been involved in Scouting and mountaineering for many years. I have walked all areas of Britain in most conditions. I have attended winter skills courses at Glenmore Lodge in Scotland and when not in the hills I am under the water
Bob Luckett (Instructor & Assessor) I have been enjoying trips to the mountains for over 35 years. I fist discovered my love for the mountains on a school trip to Snowdonia when I was about 14. When I left school I became a member of the Ceunant Mountaineering Club. Since then I have passed my Summer ML, attended a Scottish Winter Skills course and completed my SPA and CWA training. I still enjoy going to Snowdonia and the Lakes but get my real pleasure from trips to Scotland in the Winter, backpacking in the summer and Hut to Hut walking in the Alps. I help train the young people in Kingswood District for Ten Tors and want more people to get the pleasure I have had from the mountains.
Roger Vaughan (Instructor) I have spent the last 30 years climbing and walking in the UK, the Alps, Europe, as well as Canada and North America. I've completed both Summer and Winter ML training courses and enjoy helping others achieve their Mountaineering and Hill Walking ambitions. A Scout Leader first in 1975 I still think the best part of Scouting is in the variety of people you meet, who all share the common goal of helping young people develop.
Rick Souter (Climbing Adviser & Assessor) I have been involved with Scouting since I was a scout and have walked and climbed around Britain and the Alps along with my wife Fran and now daughter Jane. As well as climbing I ski as often as possible and have completed my SPS Award.
Steve Rayner (Instructor, Assessor & Welsh 'link' representative) Having been a Scout Leader for five years in South Cotswold District, I have chosen to concentrate on my favourite activities - hill walking and canoeing. I have been taking young people - both Scouts and primary school children - into the English and Welsh hills for several years and would like to see more people doing the same!
Richard Bennett (Instructor & Scottish 'link' representative) Although I now live in Aberdeen I grew up with scouting in Bristol and have been going to the hills for many a year. I have walked and climbed throughout Britain in all weathers and spent a couple of summer seasons in the Alps. My preference is for the Scottish mountains in the winter and really enjoy long backpacking trips in the summer (non midge season)! I have taken part in a lot of winter skills courses with fully qualified Mountain Guides
Julian Denslow (Instructor & Ten Tors representative) Scouting provided me with my first introduction to hill walking and the passion for the mountains still remains strong, regularly going to the Alps and the Scottish Highlands. I am still involved with Ten Tors as a Team Trainer. I have just completed my Winter ML Assessment at Glenmore Lodge in March 2002 - Our first member of the team to achieve this.
