A.S.M.A.T.
County Wild-camping course, 11-13 June 2010
Turtle Productions

We're launching a new 'pilot' course aimed for anyone who would like some expert instruction to head out to wild camp in the mountains. This training can assist you with future Scout or Explorer camps as well as being ideal for anyone considering doing their Mountain Leader award or applying for a Scout Hillwalking permit.

A pre-course meeting (at Woodhouse Park on **/**/10) will provide the preparation training, information, kit lists and lightweight tips needed before meeting in the Elan Valley area on Friday 11 June. A base camp using group tents will allow you to make final preparations before the 'off'' on Saturday morning.

During the course you will learn about choice of remote campsite, how to pack and what to carry in your rucsac, top tips on staying dry and keeping your tent and kit dry, brushing up on navigation skills and mountain weather, choice and use of equipment, menu planning and choice of foods.

Please note that this course is not suitable for beginners to hillwalking. You should be capable of walking around 25 miles over two days with a rucsac weight of around 25 lbs. Super-fitness and the ability to out-walk your instructors will result in rocks being added to your 'sacs!!!

The course is strictly limited to six applicants on a ratio of 1 leader to 2 pupils.
