Our decks structures ("the Carcass") are built using timber supplied by Fountain Timber - our preferred supplier. All their timber comes from certified, renewable sources and has been treated to last for a minimum of 15-years against rot.
We have, in recent times, unfortunately witnessed some inferior decks built by some of our competitors. We ensure that all our support timbers, their spacing and dimensions conform to the proper regulations. We will not cut corners on these support materials simply to reduce the value of our quotation.
Where a deck is being built 'off the ground', the carcassing timbers are 150mm x 50mm dimension and spaced at 400mm centres. Any elevations or supports to the deck feature 100mm x 100mm posts bolted no more than 1800mm centres. These timbers are joined by either 80mm or 100mm coach-screws or 75mm deck screws rather than nails as we find the additional security and strength from these fixings beneficial to the sturdiness and longevity of your deck.
Where we are building decks of either a higher elevation or to building regulations, galvanised metalwork (e.g. joist hangers) are used for additional structural security.
