If Spring arrives late this year, your March jobs may well get postponed into April. Otherwise April is major maintenance month. We specialise in pond maintenance and will be pleased to offer a free consultation.

FEEDING:
Fish should be fed with pellets, and live food can be offered as there is little natural insect life in the pond yet.

PUMPING & FILTRATION:
As the water temperatures increase through the spring, the fish will become increasingly active and feeding vigorously and hence the amount of waste produced by the fish will increase. A well stocked pond will require a pond filter to avoid a build up of waste products. Ultraviolet cleaners also need overhaul and the light unit replacing (they normally have a six-month life).

NEW FISH:
April is a good month to introduce new fish. However, BEWARE! You may unwittingly introduce diseased fish from an apparently reputable dealer. If you need advise on where to shop for fish, how many to buy and whether your pond can help, we welcome the opportunity to help. Please contact us for a free consultation.

MAINTENANCE:
If your pond is heavily polluted, does not have a separate filtration unit or hasn't been cleaned in a number of years, April is the best time for this job. Work includes complete drainage, silt and sludge clearance, care and re-potting of plants as well as servicing your mechanical equipment. We specialise in this work and offer extremely competitive quotes. Contact us for more information.

PLANTS:
If you notice your fish gasping at the surface early morning, it is a sure sign that there is a lack of oxygen - either through excessive plants or faulty equipment. Plants produce oxygen during daylight hours but suck available oxygen from the pond at night. Therefore ensure your pond is not or does not become congested with plants by keeping them trimmed as necessary.  Remember, everything needs space to grow. We grow our own, have approximately 80 species in stock and would be pleased to cater for your needs.
