Frog spawn in your pond is a sure sign that Spring is arriving and the cold winter departing. Your fish are becoming more active so now is the time to prepare for the season ahead. A lot of work now needs to be done - the benefits of which will be felt through the summer - however inexperienced hands could seriously harm your fish. Why not contact us to spring clean your pond?

FEEDING:
Fish should start to become active as the weather warms; commence feeding now with very small quantities of floating pond pellets and some live food such as daphnia or tubifex.

DISEASE:
The winter months can seriously drain the energy reserves of the fish and leave them in a weak condition with the onset of spring and a target for parasites such as white-spot, skin and gill flukes. Contact us if help is required.

ICE:
Icy spells could still be around. See the advice on our December page

FROGS:
Frogs and toads will be spawning this month. This is not harmful to fish; indeed the frogspawn is often eaten as nutritious food.

PUMPING & FILTRATION:
As the temperature creeps up, return your pump to the pond floor, however be aware of cold snaps, as excessive cold water can still be harmful to your fish. Check over your pond hardware. Should your equipment be malfunctioning we can help! Contact us

PLANTS:
If your pond already has established plants, now is the time to check them over and if pot-bound, re-pot them using aquatic soil, not normal soil or compost, removing any dead growth if not done at the close of last year. You can also add new plants to improve your range and add instant effect. We grow our own, have approximately 80 species in stock and would be pleased to cater for your needs.
