FEEDING:
Continue feeding fish to fatten them up ready for their dormant period in the winter.

PUMPING & FILTRATION:
The autumn is again a useful time for servicing your ultra-violet clarifier unit as described in the spring. Most of the algae that cause green water are sensitive to the cold and many ponds will clear naturally in the winter months and it can therefore be more economical to turn the ultra-violet light unit off for the winter period.

PLANTS:
Dying foliage should be removed from all aquatic plants to avoid a surplus of decaying vegetation in the water when it ices over later. Put a net over the pond to prevent leaves blowing into the water.

MAINTENANCE:
Use a hand net to remove floating debris from the pond. Most garden ponds need a complete clean out every third year. This may be necessary more frequently due to accidental pollution, spilling of planting containers, etc.
Your pond should not need cleaning if you can see all the way to the bottom (clean water), you can see the liner at the bottom (no silt/debris build up), your pond has been serviced by us within the last 12 months and you have a filtration unit servicing your pond. Your pond will need clearing if your pond water is cloudy (dust/sediment disturbed by fish or green water), there is sediment lying on the pond bottom. More = bigger problem), you do not have a separate filtration unit serving the pond.
