This client had completed the exterior of a large extension and now needed the deck to facilitate its use. Nestling some 3 metres off the ground the deck support structure had to be as open as possible so as not to significantly reduce the levels of light entering the lower floor. A flight of steps link the main deck area to the lower garden whilst a wrap-around deck runs up the side of the house, connecting to the front drive for easy access.
Always trying to innovate our projects, we settled upon a row of posts supporting a cantilevered deck, jutting out over the external line of the building. Galvanised joist hanger'd ledger boards were fastened to the outside wall whilst deck joists tied the structure together through the use of coach-bolts and galvanised nails. As always, all our deckboards and railings are fastened using screws to further enhance stability. An interesting project giving fantastic views over the Stroud valley.
