From 2006

This client was looking to capitalise on getting access to the sun! Her garden was in shade for much of the day due to tall surrounding buildings, however by putting a patio door into her 1st floor living space and stepping out onto a small deck, they could enjoy the sun until early evening. As the deck was only 8' x 8' its volume did not need planning permission so we were able to build it to the clients timetable rather than facing delays.

Bolting a ledger board pre-fitted with joist hangers allowed us to build the deck over the existing shed, supporting the far end on stilts which doubled as railing and staircase supports. Planed, deckjoists were bolted and pinned in the joist hangers whilst the deckboards were, as usual, screwed down for rigidity. A flight of stairs connected the balcony to the clients sun patio at the rear of the garden whilst 'modern' spindles connected to our patented handrail system enclosed the entire area, safely.
