We were approached to extend this clients living space into the garden. The steps were crumbling apart and, with a southerly aspect, a deck was required. Hardwood was chosen as it doesn't require any maintenance, leaving this client with more free time to enjoy.
The deck was built to our usual recipe of softwood carcassing, 4" posts, drink-supporting handrail and modern baluster system plus closeboard cladding for the elevations.
Where this deck differed was that the grass under the deck area was removed and replaced with a concrete slab, allowing the client a firm, hard-wearing floor for storage under the deck. As the deck was a raised one, we also considered the neighbours requirements by keeping it as low as possible together with reduced height railings and minimal steps. LED deck lights complete this structure which was built in a week.
