From 2006

This client had precious little time to maintain his garden yet needed a sanctuary to both relax and entertain in. A central hard surface with surround planting, illumination, BBQ area and improved steps to his basement flat were required.

A 1-tonne mini-digger fitted through the existing gateway and the garden was scraped and wheel-barrowed out in 1/2 a day, allowing the delivery, pouring and compaction of a sub-base for the patio in the afternoon. The hard part of designing and laying the patio (supplied by Bowland Stone) then commenced.

Planting then followed, again with the brief that they should provide all-year-round interest yet be tough, hard-wearing and require negligible maintenance. The steps were built using new-oak sleepers and more paving with alpine gravel in-fill, to match the patio. Lighting was low voltage which gently illuminated and spot lit the garden as dusk fell.
