The original garden lacked inspiration, but was home to an old greenhouse base! (click me to enlarge) One day's work later and the old garden had vanished (click me to enlarge)
At 200kg a piece, we've moved lighter wood than these sleepers - still, they look the part (click me to enlarge) Next step sees the construction of the pergola, tieing into the existing fence to strengthen it (click me to enlarge)
Once the pergola was finished, all the wooden areas were treated to ensure colour similarity and extra protection against the elements (click me to enlarge) Finally it was time to address the floor - being a slab patio laid on a landscape fabric membrane (click me to enlarge)

From 2002

This is our first installation on behalf of a newly associated Landscape Architect. Working from drawings, we were to transform part of the garden using a woodland theme, completing all the hard landscaping work for future planting.

The old patio and paving areas were quickly disposed of and the removed gravel was recycled into the front garden. 18 railway sleepers were chain-sawed and placed to form raised planting beds.

A pergola was built and a small patio laid, surrounded by bark chippings. Finally all wood was painted to ensure colour similarity.

Not only did good clients made this project most enjoyable but they also asked us back to install additional raised sleeper beds as well as build a bespoke double-length shed for them.
